About
Daniel Bechtel-Unekis is a dedicated advocate, educator, and speaker with a deep commitment to justice. Daniel holds a B.A. in Spanish and later received a Masters in Divinity (M.Div). His journey led him from the local church to a profound realization of his passion for working with marginalized communities. His work at Community Action House included leading empowerment training for community members and creating innovative ways to combat food insecurity through the development of the current Food Club model. As the Ottawa County Outreach Program Manager, he engaged directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and was a cocreator of Refresh--a partnership with the First United Methodist Church of Holland which offers showers to clients living outdoors. Later, as a System Administrator at the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness (MCAH), he navigated the complexities of macro-level policy work. His diverse roles encompassed both hands-on, local initiatives and broad-scale state and federal policy efforts.

After graduating with his Masters of Social Work (MSW), Daniel returned to local, clinical social work as a full-time psychotherapist at City on a Hill. He provides free, therapeutic support to those without health insurance, offering services in both English and Spanish. He currently volunteers with the Ottawa County Health Equity Committee and the Lakeshore Housing Alliance. Daniel's journey reflects his unwavering commitment to bridging the gap between individuals and the broader societal systems that shape their lives.
Daniel lives in Holland, Michigan with his wife Kari.
